Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday...

First the fun bits...here are some more WEdding Crasher Virgin Photos.

Cool, huh? More tomorrow!

It's time those that make my job tremendously fun!

It takes the sting out of other moments in life. Work is always a challenge, but I love it, so no complaints. Personal life isn't so bad either, but I have a lot of friends going through rough times. I wish I could do more some days...

Anywho...thought you guys might like this.

More tomorrow.

Things To Think About When Hiring a New Media Team

I'm pretty lucky that I get to meet some amazing people doing what I do. Inevitably, I get a lot of questions on what we do and I do my best to answer them all but sometimes that can be tough to achieve. Especially if you meet at an event or a place where it's too loud to have a proper conversation. I've decided that I'm going to try to tackle some of those questions here, on Saturdays.

Then I'll just refer people here if they have a question. Lol!

So...to stat things off, Top Things to Think About when Hiring A New Media Company

1) Can you work with their team?
It's very important to hire someone in the business that hears your needs - and respects them - but is also willing to offer creative suggestions based on their experience and help you stand out from your competition. Communication is key and not everyone can communicate with one another. Pick a team you can work with.

2) Do you like their style?
Every New Media or production team has a different style and it's important to find someone who's work speaks to you in some way.

3) Will they work within your budget? Or can they?
Companies offer different prices for different reasons. It could be dependant on the crew they bring wherever they go, or it might be because they have years of experience behind them that can justify higher rates. Either way, most of us are used to clients with tight budgets. Communicate this with the team you hire. There are usually solutions to these kinds of problems.

4) How Firm are you on your deadline?
S
ometimes while negotiating terms, you might be able to reduce the cost significantly If you are not in a rush, the costs go up when you need a project completed overnight or with a 'rush' attached to it.

5) Do they have samples of work and possibly references?

Check out what they've done and speak to people they've worked with. It'll help you make a decision that is right for you and your company!

So weird...

So much fun, and more to come.

Last night's YVR TWESTIVAL was a hoot and I'm so glad I finally made it there (a few glitches made me horribly late, but I made it!)

Some super cool people I met were James (Kato66 Look below for a picture of him Tweeting at the event), Chrstopher(@atomicpoet), Dixon Tam (@Dixon Tam) and several other Erin's. Lol!

Also, I was thrilled to see my fav photographers in the world in attendance (and working the event) Jakob and Cole of Nordica Photography. Amazing guys who do amazing work!!! check out the pictures from the event here. (Thank Gawd they didn't get mine ...you'll notice below that I had the 'drowned rat' thing going on. It was a wet night in vancouver and I still refuse to sport an umbrella.

Here's what I took on my camera phone.

Me and Jim...clearly I don't know how to rotate pics on this thing. Erin the dork.

And Here's some from John Biehler that I like. (He's a great photographer too, and very nice man!)

Click here to see this one of the three Erin's.

Tonight's the big Do with the Bare Naked Ladies. I'll post about that tomorrow.

Thursday...there's rain (but I'm still smiling)

Yes...big night tonight!!! Lots of friends that I'll be meeting and lots of prizes to be won. I love fundraisers for that reason. Everyone leaves feeling great!

I've also finally been given the green light to work on a video for the most amazing Architect. Man...if I had half his talent! (I guess I'd be about half as talented! Lol!)

Anyway, we get to put together a short promo video for him so I'm really happy about that.

Here are just a few of the homes he's worked on:

I've asked him to pay me houses but he's refused. :)

More on this later.

For now, I'm just gearing up for tonight and also working on my "30 days to a better blog" project.

Yesterday was SWOT (Did it!) and today is the Elevator Pitch.

Keep you posted.

Oh....the excitement of it all!

Some days I REALLY love what I do and my life. As per usual, my life is a whirlwind of joy and excitement. In fact, I'm pretty stinkin' happy.

Today I started something called '30 Days To a Better Blog" with a group of amazing fellow bloggers. I'm excited because, it never hurts to improve on things, and it's a great chance to meet some new people and attract to the wonders that is Global Blowfish!

I'm doing it with these guys so go check them out!

On another note, tomorrow Jim and I are going to an awesome event in Vancouver called the YVR Twestival!

Here's the gist of the event:
About Concern Worldwide (@Concern):
Concern Worldwide was founded in 1968 to meet the needs of people living in extreme poverty. Concern is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of poverty. Please follow @concern on Twitter to get a glimpse of their staff tweeting from around the world; including their efforts on the ground in Haiti.

Pretty cool, huh? If you happen to be there drop by and say hi to Jim and I. He's not as weird as you might think. Ha ha!

And then....(Drumroll please) Friday night Jim and I will be attending the wedding reception of the flippin decade! It's hosted by Virgin Radio, will have the Bare Naked Ladies as the house band, and plenty of FUN FUN FUN (no Steven Page, but alas...should still be a good show!)

So...lots on the go these days. And it's all awesome!

I laughed, I snorted, and then I had to post it....

Festival Update

Yes...some may call me a late bloomer, but I didn't see Saw until this year (and I'm talking about the first one...Not Saw part 18!) and I LOVED it!

With that in mind, I have to promote this festival to you guys.

Check it out and let me know how you did.

The Best in Cover songs...

Ok...call me crazy, but I usually don't like Cover Songs. I've been changing my views on this though lately, and it's mostly because of great artists like Milow who really go out on a limb. AYO Technology.

First, Meet Milow.

I LOVE a good parody!

And this is a great one.

Enjoy!

Meet Fred

My kids (and Jim) introduced me to this 'kid' and I have to admit...he's kind of funny. A little annoying, but he has quite the draw. Over 39 MILLION views? Wow!

And because I'm having a sad-ish day, I thought I could use a little annoying humour.

Wowsers!!!

Needless to say, this weekend has been pretty stinkin' amazing. Michelle's birthday party on Friday night was a hoot, and it was great to see a co-worker I admire so much have such a great night. She deserved every second of it!

Saturday was amazing too, and I'm still talking about it to anyone who will listen. That was the start of the pitch fest, and I won't go into too much detail about it, but that was one of those opportunities that I'm glad I took advantage of. I learned so much and met some great people. My favourite seminar was in the morning on Tactical Networking.

Saturday I also got my new computer, so I'm a very happy girl! It's nice to have a reliable machine that can handle the amount of editing I do on a regular basis (and handle my facebook and twitter times! Lol!)

Then tonight was of course the oscars and although I thought Precious should have got a bit more recognition I really enjoyed the show and thought that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were hilarious.

Anyway...now I'm exhausted, but I had to update you guys on how great it all was.

(how many times did I say GREAT in this post anyway?)

The Weekend is HERE!

I know most people get excited about ANY weekend but this weekend is going to be so amazing I can barely stand it!!!

The Oscars, friends birthday party tonight, and the best part (of course) is the pitch fest this Saturday/Sunday!!!!

Although, I'm al;ready anxious about what I'm wearing and what I'm saying/pitching.

Hopefully I'll have great things to report by Monday!

Cheers!
Erin

Woo Hoo!

Wow...I just got the best news today. Now...I hadn't planned on having my first blog post on blogger to be like THIS but hey...when you get good news, you have to share, right?

It turns out that one of our films, Make Up The Dead just got accepted into the Women in Film Festival in Vancouver! How cool is that?

There are a lot of exciting changes these days. Jim and I have loads of projects on the go, and there's SO much to share with all of you, now I just have to find the time to do it.

This weekend we'll both be attending a pitch fest in Vancouver attended by some pretty big-wigs from LA. Actually...he doesn't know he's going yet, but he is.

Oh yes you are!!

:)

Thanks for coming by. More soon.
